A large plaster study of a German Shorthaired Pointer by Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899). Rosa Bonheur was a renowned sculptor and painter in the 19th century, specialising in animal subjects. Bonheur was widely considered to be the most famous female painter of the nineteenth century. Her animal statues are remarkable for their realist style. Her paintings hang in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Very decorative with good patina. Slight damage to left ear, otherwise excellent condition.
